I often forget that we are in the midst of a pandemic, especially on days as pictured above. I found these writings perfect for those of you who may not.
.
What is fear? "Fear is a painful emotion excited by danger. It is apprehension of danger or pain. Fear is an emotion excited by threatening evil or impending pain, accompanied by a desire to avoid or escape it and to provide for one's security." Each and every one of us experiences fear at some point in our lives. Even the king is afraid of his enemy as is the beautiful lady afraid of old age.
Fear is of two kinds, normal and imaginary. It said that 90% of fear is imaginary! while normal fear preserves life, imaginary fear causes disease, depletes energies, etc.
So how can we overcome fear? What is its cause? Attachment. Wherever there is attachement there is fear.
Swami Sivananda says: "If you are afraid of something, look at it in the face. Fear will vanish... Put the seed of courage in your heart... Fear will die by itself. Develop your will-power. Cultivate courage of fortitude. Develop mental power of endurance, firmness in meeting danger, and power of resistance. Be courageous and patient in sharp pains, the occasion of loss of children or property, and in protracted illness. Have courage and manly character. Remember Saints and their virtuous deeds." Brahman is an absolutely fearless state, therefore attempt to practice non attachment and you will have eternal peace.
