This painting is called “Revered”, and it furthers my focus on how Black bodies are valued in North American culture. With this piece, I am looking at the broken promises that we’re made to Black people through many generations. Starting with the black loyalists who didn’t get the land they were promised, and subjected to unsafe living conditions in Nova Scotia, to modern time, when despite our accomplishments and successes there are those who consider us less than. We need to continue to demand action.
