Last week was another spectacular Terroir Symposium. The sun shone down on us in Calgary, and wow — what a weekend it was! Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕 #terroirtalk Who doesn’t love a flamingo—perhaps the world’s most romantic bird? 🦩 Five Fun Flamingo Facts: 🦩They Aren’t Born Pink Flamingos hatch with gray or white feathers—their pink hue comes from beta-carotene in the algae, shrimp, and plankton they eat. 🦩 They’re Surprisingly Loud Graceful but vocal, flamingos honk, grunt, and growl to communicate, especially during mating season or in large flocks. 🦩 They Have Unique “Dance Moves” To attract a mate, flamingos perform synchronized group dances—head-flagging, wing-flapping, and even marching in unison. The flashier the moves, the better their chances—kind of like drunk humans. 🍷💃 🦩 They Form Tight Social Groups Flamingos are highly social and live in colonies of thousands, which help protect them from predators and assist in raising their young. 🦩 A Group of Flamingos is Called a “Flamboyance”! 🌺 Did you know flamingos gather in large colonies in the Camargue, a vast wetland region in southern France? This protected habitat offers ideal breeding conditions—rich food sources, stable water levels, and safe nesting areas—sustaining thousands of flamingos each year.
